ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) will recommence debate Friday 23rd of April at 11am, on Resolution apropos expulsion of French Envoy.
NA held session (boycotted by PPP-P) on Tuesday 20th of April, 2021 to debate the Resolution calling for the protection of the sanctity of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). During proceedings, a resolution to form a special committee to discuss the expulsion of the French envoy was passed.
Lawmakers started to express their point of viewon the Resolution condemning the running of blasphemous material by French weekly Charlie against Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wa Sallam Khatam-un-Nabiyeen.
Resolution asked for a debate on the issue of expelling the Envoy from the Hexagon. But the speaker proclaimed formation of a special committee to discuss the matter, instead of voting. According to the resolution all Muslim countries should take the matter up jointly and speak with one voice at International forums.
It has been pointed out in the Resolution that weekly Charlie had published blasphemous caricatures first in 2015. Later, despite severe reaction from the Muslim world, weekly Charlie repeated the same, harming the international peace and harmony. It has also been stated in the Resolution that regretfully French President Emanuel Macron too encouraged the publishers in the name of freedom of expression.
The resolution maintained that all the European countries should be apprised of the seriousness of the matter. Muslim countries should collectively raise their voice on the matter at global platforms. On the domestic front it has been stated in the Resolution that deciding international matters is the sole prerogative of the state and no individual group or party can exert pressure.
Member of National Assembly belonging to ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Amjad Ali Khan moved the Resolution condemning the French weekly Charlie for publishing blasphemous caricatures hurting the feelings of Muslims all over the world. French President Emanuel Macron’s statement was also criticized.
