SANA MAHMOOD

KARACHI: It has reliably been learnt that six internet shutdowns in the FY 2015-16 have inflicted a loss of $ 69.7 million to national exchequer.

Pakistan, infested with the incessant attempts of terrorism, finds it easy to ward-off such attempts by simply turning the means of communication off.

One may recall how recent shutting down of mobile during national day parade in Islamabad affected the area within the five km radius of the event including airport and a hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that according to the said study internet blackouts in 19 countries cost over $2.4 b in GDP in the last FY.
