ISLAMABAD: President has signed Madrasa Bill (Societies Registration Amendment Act) 2024 into law here on Sunday (29th Dec 2024).
The Gazette says that no Madrasa shall teach or publish any literature which teaches or promotes militancy or spreads sectarianism or religious hatred. Every Madrasa shall, subject to their resources, include contemporary subjects in their curriculum, No Madrasa shall be required to register itself under any other law.
It may be recalled that JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, while talking to journalists at a Presser held at his residence in Shorkot (D. I. Khan) on 12th Dec, has said that his party was all set to take to the streets if the Madrasa Registration Bill was not immediately implemented.
JUI-F Chief, who had rejected the Govt’s decision apropos registration of Madrasas with the Ministry of Education maintained: “Following passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill in parliament with consensus from the PPP, PML-N and other political parties, objections to the proposed Madrassa law should have ceased”. Meanwhile, a correspondence from President Zardari to PM Shehbaz deciphered the reason of delay:
“Lawmakers should keep in mind the international environment that when a madrasa is registered under a society, which has conflicting interests, [it] would invite international criticism/sanctions for Pakistan. If the existing procedure for madrasa registration is obviated, it could be perilous as it may invite FATF, GSP-Plus and other international institutions to review their opinion about Pakistan.”
