IK’s Final Call: PTI calls it a day after operation!

ISLAMABAD: Following the Police-Rangers’ operation, (during which Bushra/Gandapur/Omar Ayub’s container was torched) in the early hours of Wednesday (27th Nov, 2024), PTI took a retreat calling it a day: “In view of the government’s brutality and plan to turn the capital into a slaughterhouse for unarmed citizens, (PTI) announces the suspension of the peaceful protest for the time being.”

PTI claimed that 1000 of its workers had been taken into custody and eight of the protesters were shot dead during Police/Rangers’ operation on Wednesday, but security forces held that there was no firing on protesters. Meanwhile, HRCP called for political introspection.

Gandapur resurfaces in Mansehra: Speaking to journalists at a Presser held at speaker KP Assembly’s Mansehra house, in presence of party workers, Ali Amin Gandapur said that the dharna (sit-in) was temporarily suspended and only PTI Chief could call it off: “Khan Sahab gave this call, saying that the protest would continue until he call it off!” Announcing compensation of rupees one crore for the family of ‘each of the PTI worker killed’ he maintained that KP knew how to claim its mandate and rights: “The nation cannot be enslaved through bullets and violence.”

Capital’s Top Cop Ali Nasir Rizvi and Capital’s Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa spoke at a joint presser here on Wednesday. IG claimed that law enforcers only used non-lethal weapons to get the D-Chowk clear from PTI workers who wanted to stage a sit in there. He told that overall 954 people were nabbed. On the Wednesday night operation 610 workers were arrested.

Since protesters retreated post-haste, law enforcers impounded 200 vehicles left behind. Inspector IG, informing that the search operation had not finished yet, claimed that weapons (including Kalashnikovs & pistols) were recovered from the arrested PTI workers. Commissioner said data of Afghan nationals would be verified & only those who had been issued NOC by him would be able to live in Islamabad.

Only few were admitted for treatment at medical facility: According to PIMS its emergency ward had received 66 law enforcers and 36 civilians, But almost all of them had minor injuries and were allowed to leave after first aid.

ISLAMABAD: Both vehicles of law enforcers and protesters got damaged due to skirmishes.
