Rival Super Powers Meet In Beijing

BEIJING: President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping commenced a Super Powers Summit on issues like Sino-US Trade, Taiwan and Iran, here on Thursday (14th May, 2026).

The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation between countries, including expanding market access for American businesses into China and increasing Chinese investment. Leaders from many of largest American companies joined a portion of the meeting.

Donald Trump, while talking on the occasion of the State Banquet Dinner at the Great Hall of People remarked: “It was a fantastic day, and in particular, I want to thank President Xi, my friend, for this magnificent welcome… and for so graciously hosting us on this very historic state visit.”

At the State Banquet, President Donald Trump invited President Xi to the White House in September, 2026.

Donald Trump, harboring on the subject of Iran, said that President Xi would like to see a deal made: “If I can help at all, I would like to be of help. Anybody that buys that much oil has obviously got some kind of relationship, but he’d like to see the Hormuz Strait open”.

White House, following the Sino-American summit, stated: “President Trump had a good meeting with President Xi of China. The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation between our two countries, including expanding market access for American businesses into China and increasing Chinese investment into our industries.

Leaders from many of the United States’ largest companies joined a portion of the meeting. The Presidents also highlighted the need to build on progress in ending the flow of fentanyl precursors into the United States, as well as increasing Chinese purchases of American agricultural products.

The two sides agreed that the strait of Hormuz must remain open to support the free flow of energy. President Xi also made clear China’s opposition to the militarization of the Strait and any effort to charge a toll for its use, and he expressed interest in purchasing more American oil to reduce China’s dependence on the Strait in the future. Both countries agrees that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.”

US President Donald Trump, holding that it was an honour to be the friend of Xi Jinping, stated that their countries would have a fantastic future together. Xi said that US and China should be partners and not rivals.

US President arrived here on a 3-day state visit on13th May.

The Super Powers rendezvous was important for Trump at this point of time, when his approval ratings is going down due to inflation caused by augmenting prices of oil as a result of long war and Hormuz blockade. While, Iran and Taiwan were in the agenda, presence of entrepreneurs in Airforce 1 insinuated that Trump was determined to focus on trade.

Businessmen onboard included Tim Cook (Apple), Elon Musk (Tesla), Kelly Ortberg (Boeing), Dina Powell McCormick (Meta). Executives from Blackrock, Blackstone, Cargill, Citi, Coherent, GE Aerospace, Goldman Sachs, Illumina, Mastercard, Micron, Qualcomm, and Visa are also part of Trump’s delegation.

Conspicuous among others there, in the Trump’s delegation are Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
