BEIJING: US President Donald Trump arrived here on a 3-day state visit Wed (13th May, 2026) during which he will meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
Before leaving for Beijing Trump told reporters: “I don’t think we need any help with Iran”. Nevertheless, savants at the helm of affairs believe that he will attempt to encourage Chinese President to persuade Tehran to agree to peace deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
It is also important for him at this point of time, when his approval ratings is going down due to inflation caused by augmenting prices of oil as a result of Hormuz blockade. While, Iran and Taiwan are in the agenda, presence of businessmen in Airforce 1 insinuates that Trump is determined to focus on business.
Entrepreneurs onboard include Tim Cook (Apple), Elon Musk (Tesla), Kelly Ortberg (Boeing), Dina Powell McCormick (Meta). Executives from Blackrock, Blackstone, Cargill, Citi, Coherent, GE Aerospace, Goldman Sachs, Illumina, Mastercard, Micron, Qualcomm, and Visa are also part of Trump’s delegation.
Conspicuous among others in the delegation there are Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
President Xi would like to see a deal made. He said, ‘If I can be of any help at all, I would like to be of help.’ Anybody that buys that much oil has obviously got some kind of relationship, but he’d like to see the Hormuz Strait open.
