MARIB (YEMEN): A Black Hawk helicopter that was being used by the Saudi-led military coalition (fighting near Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa) crashed here on Tuesday (18th of April, 2017), killing 12 Saudi officers.

This is being reckoned as one of the Yemen War’s deadliest tragedies that Saudi troops met.

Saudi-led coalition intervened in Yemen’s war in 2015 in order to roll back the dominant Houthi group and bring  President Abd-Rabu Mansour Hadi back to power.

Coalition spokesman said that they were investigating the cause of the crash. However, Yemeni Defense Ministry insinuated that a friendly fire had brought the heli down.

It is pertinent to mention here that the crash coincided with the arrival of US Defense Secretary James Mattis in Riyadh to discuss the Yemen War.
