SC summons CEOs of public sector companies in Punjab

LAHORE: The Supreme Court Saturday adjourning the hearing of a Suo Motu notice regarding huge salary structure of officers of public companies in Punjab summoned chief executive officers (CEOs) to know their stance.
The bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard the matter at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.
At the outset of the hearing, the director general National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab and chief secretary Punjab appeared before the bench.
The chief secretary apprised that a list of 346 civil servants deputed in public sector companies had been handed over to the bureau.
At this, the chief justice summoned CEOs of companies for Sunday to know their stance observing that the amount paid to the officers would be recovered and the same would be deposited in the fund established for the dams. He also sought a list of officers deputed in companies on more than Rs300,000 salary.
Meanwhile, the bench apprised Saturday that 215 addicts were recovered from Amir Chisti Rehabilitation Centre.
As the proceedings started, Additional Advocate General Punjab Shan Gull appeared before the bench and submitted a report regarding addicts recovered from Amir Chisti Rehabilitation Centre. He stated that 215 addicts were recovered from the center and informed that they were subjected to torture in the name of treatment.
He said that the owner had been arrested after registration of a case and raids were being made to arrest the co-accused.
At this, the chief justice observed that he would immediately come to Lahore from Islamabad if required for the hearing of this case. He ordered to seal Chisti Rehabilitation Centres located in Sheikhupura and Faisalabad besides directing inspector general of police Punjab and Healthcare Commission Punjab for action against such centers across the province, as per law.
Moreover, the bench directed occupants/owners of petrol pumps established on Lahore Development Authority (LDA) plots in the city to settle their affairs and leave possession within 60 days, while hearing a Suo Motu notice against allotment of the plots owned by LDA to petrol pumps at throwaway prices.
Earlier, a report was submitted on behalf of the LDA regarding terms and conditions for the auction of the plots.
