LAHORE: A district court here on Thursday (22nd August, 2024) has extended fake news monger Farhan Asif’s remand by four days.
CIA Model Town here on Monday (19th August, 2024) had nabbed Farhan Asif, accusing him of running a fake news about stabbing of three young girls by a Muslim immigrant in Southport, that triggered country-wide violence against Muslims by Far-Right.
Police handed over the accused to FIA that proclaimed Farhan Asif had committed an act of cyberterrorism and was being booked accordingly. It may be be recalled that the fake news posted by Farhan Asif was viewed by millions and far-right influencers grasped at the opportunity to widely share it.
Farhan Asif held that he only copied and pasted the news from a Social Media Post and late deleted it. Sources have also confirmed that the fakenews was first run by a little known tabloid on 29th July, 2024. Later it was published by a UK-based woman, notorious for spreading disinformation.
