WASHINGTON: A US officer on condition of anonymity told the Media that the over an hour long call between US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about Ukraine crisis was professional and substantive.
The officer further stated that the talk between the two head of states brought no major change in the standoff over Russian troops converging at Ukraine border.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Secretary of State Antony Blinken has warned FM of Russia Sergey Lavrov by means of phone that in case of an invasion of Ukraine there would be a “resolute, massive, and united Transatlantic response”.
According to Blinken, despite Russian military buildup at the Ukraine border, the option of contain the tension in the region was still on the table, though it would require goof-faith discussions.
State Department informed: “The Secretary made clear that a diplomatic path to resolving the crisis remained open, but it would require Moscow to deescalate and engage in good-faith discussions.
“He reiterated that should Moscow pursue the path of aggression and further invade Ukraine, it would result in a resolute, massive, and united Transatlantic response.”
