QUETTA: Provincial Coordinator Lady Health Worker Program Balochistan Dr. Shair Ahmed said the Balochistan government was trying to ensure the provision of nutrition to children in cooperation with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
Addressing a press conference here, he said screening of children under 5 to 6 years was being started in three districts including Quetta, Pishin and Qila Abdullah in order to meet the shortage of food on an emergency basis,
Dr. Shair Ahmed said around 25 teams had been formed including Lady Health Workers and Volunteer members for the three districts.
He claimed that it was found out after screening in Quetta that some children were experiencing 40 percent lack of nutrition and for this purpose, lady health workers were taking steps to provide nutrition to children, saying that those children and their mothers suffering malnutrition and other diseases would be shifted to Bolan Medical Complex (BMC) Hospital for ensuring their proper aid.
He said on special directive of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Jam Kamal Khan, Health Minister Naseebullah Marri and Health Secretary Hafiz Abdul Majid, Children’s screening would be started in four droughts hit districts including Kharan, Washak, Chaghi and Nushki under the supervision of lady health workers and UNICEF for removing lack of nutrition.
