ISLAMABAD: The United States is set to make history this June by hosting the T20 Cricket Men’s World Cup (WC) for the very first time.
In a display of support for Pakistan ahead of the highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2024, US Envoy Donald Blome hosted the Green Shirts (National Cricket Team) for a meet-and-greet at the Embassy here on Monday (29th April, 2024).
The Ambassador welcomed the national team players and accompanying Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi at his residence and extended his best wishes to the players for their upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup matches in the United States.
In dual gestures of sports diplomacy, Ambassador Blome presented the team members with a commemorative embassy cricket ball and autographed softball bat; the Pakistani team reciprocated by presenting the Ambassador with a signed cricket bat and team jersey.
The Ambassador then participated in an impromptu cricket demonstration with members of the National Team.
Adding to the excitement, both Pakistan and the United States have been slated to play within the same group stage and will compete in a highly anticipated match-up scheduled for 6th June.

ٹی ٹوئنٹی کرکٹ ورلڈ کپ ۲۰۲۴ء کے آغاز سے قبل اور پاکستان کی قومی کرکٹ ٹیم سے اظہارِ یکجہتی کے لیے پاکستان میں امریکہ کے سفیر ڈونلڈ بلوم نے پاکستانی ٹی ٹوئنٹی ٹیم کے کھلاڑیوں سےگزشتہ روز سفارتخانہ میں ایک تقریب میں ملاقات کی اور ورلڈ کپ میں شرکت کے لیے روانگی سے قبل اُن کی حوصلہ افزائی کی۔
امریکی سفیر کی رہائشگاہ پر منعقد ہونے والے اس استقبالیہ میں سفیر بلوم نے قومی کرکٹ ٹیم کے کھلاڑیوں کے ساتھ پاکستان کرکٹ بورڈ کے چیئرمین محسن نقوی کو بھی خوش آمدید کہا اور امریکہ میں منعقد ہونے والی ٹی ٹی ٹوئنٹی کرکٹ ورلڈ کپ مقابلوں کے لیے نیک خواہشات کا اظہار بھی کیا۔
اس موقع پر اسپورٹس ڈپلومیسی کا باہمی مظاہر ہ کرتے ہوئے سفیر بلوم نے پاکستان ٹیم کے ارکان کو سفارتخانہ کی یادگاری کرکٹ بال اور دستخط شدہ سافٹ بال بیٹ پیش کیا۔
جبکہ پاکستانی ٹیم نے بھی اُسی خیر سگالی کے جذبہ کے تحت سفیربلوم کو پاکستان کی سرکاری کرکٹ شرٹ اورٹیم کا دستخط شدہ بلّا پیش کیا۔
اس موقع پر سفیر ڈونلڈ بلوم نے قومی ٹیم کے کھلاڑیوں کے ساتھ ہلکی پھلکی کرکٹ بھی کھیلی۔
واضح رہے کہ رواں سال جون میں پہلی بار ٹی ٹوئنٹی کرکٹ ورلڈ کپ کی میزبانی کرتے ہوئے امریکہ ایک تاریخ رقم کرنے جا رہا ہے۔ کھیل کا جوش دوبالا کرنے کے حوالے سے یہ خبر یقیناً دلچسپی سے خالی نہیں کہ امریکہ اور پاکستان دونوں ایک ہی گروپ میں شامل کیے گئے ہیں اوردونوں ممالک چھ جون کو ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ گروپ میچ میں مدِّ مقابل ہونگے جس کا سب کو بے چینی سے انتظار رہے گا۔
