TEHRAN: Porte Parole of the Foreign Ministry Esmail Baghaei, while talking to journalists at a weekly Press briefing here on Monday (11th May, 2026), pointed towards unreasonable & one-sided demands of US and maintained that the response sent by Iran to Trump’s proposal via Pakistan on 10th May was not excessive.
FM spokesman asserted that Tehran did not seek any concessions: “The only thing we demanded was Iran’s legitimate rights:” an end to the war in the region, lifting the US blockade and piracy, and release of assets belonging to the Iranian people, which have for years been unjustly trapped in foreign banks.
The spokesman said that his country wanted safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, establishing security in the region and Lebanon, “which are considered a generous and responsible offer for regional security.”
Spokesman maintained: “Whenever we are forced to fight, we will fight, and whenever there is room for diplomacy, we will seize that opportunity…However, diplomacy has its own rules…The decision will be based on our national interests, and we have proven that we are keen on safeguarding our people’s interests.”
US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to state: “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called “Representatives.” I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!…”
Irani President Masoud Pezeshkian, while exchanging notes with CinC and Sr. Commanders stated: “While distrusting the enemy, we consider negotiation possible from a position of dignity, wisdom, and expediency, and if an agreement is reached, taking into account the concerns of the Supreme Leader and the interests of the Iranian nation, we will adhere to our promise.
“We now have various options: either we enter into negotiations with dignity, authority, and the preservation of national interests and realise the rights of the Iranian people, or we remain in a state of neither war nor peace, or we continue on the path of war and confrontation.
“The rational, logical and national interest-based preference is that the victory achieved by the armed forces on the battlefield is also completed in the field of diplomacy and the rights of the Iranian people are established from the standpoint of honour and authority.”
