KARACHI: Citoyens of a number of countries are celebrating the New Year (of Wood Snake symbolising wisdom and mystery), on Wednesday (29th Jan, 2025).
Lunar New Year is associated with an animal in the Chinese zodiac, which is paired with metal, wood, water, fire or earth.
The eve of 2-week-long fest is celebrated by hosting family reunions. The invited friends bring gifts and red envelope (hongbao) bearing small amount of money for the kids.
On first day of the New Year, married women visit their in-laws. On 2nd day parents are visited by their daughters. On 3rd day people rest after two days of hectic rejoicing.
The 4th and 5th days are dedicated to the god of wealth. On 6th day people go back to their work after getting rid of of redundant old stuff at their places.
