GAZA: Despite receiving all the clearances, Israeli forces have opened fire at clearly marked UN’s World Food Program (WFP) convey, consisting of three vehicles, carrying eight staff members here on Monday (6th Jan, 2024).

Though sixteen bullets hit the vehicles, no worker was harmed: “The clearly marked WFP convoy was shot at by Israeli forces near the Wadi Gaza checkpoint, putting the lives of our staff at tremendous risk and leaving the vehicles immobilised.” Condemning the incident, the WFP urged: “All parties to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilian lives and allow safe passage for humanitarian aid”.

WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain, while terming the opening of fire by Israeli forces as unacceptable, pointed out that the attack was the latest in a series of such occurrences that have endangered the lives of her team members in Gaza: “As last night’s events show, the current deconfliction system is failing and this cannot go on any longer.”
