OTTAWA: Since ruling liberals are trailing badly in elections, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, has resigned as Prime Minister of Canada before a national Liberal Party caucus scheduled to be held on Wednesday (8th Jan, 2025).
53-year-old Justin Trudeau proclaimed: “I intend to resign as party leader as prime minister after the party selects its next leader through a robust, nationwide competitive process. This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election.”
Those who can replace him as the Liberal Party Chief are:
1) Chrystia Freeland (former deputy PM);
2) Mark Carney (former central banker);
3) Dominic Leblanc (Minister of Finance & Intergovernmental Affairs);
4) Mélanie Joly (Minister of Foreign Affairs);
5) Christy Clark (former premier of British Columbia);
6) Anita Anand (Minister of Transport);
7) François-Philippe Champagne (Minister of Innovation, Science & Industry).
