BISHKEK: Government has claimed that no Pakistani student had died or raped by the mob that attacked their hostels here late Friday (17th May, 2024) night.

BISHKEK: According to the Ambassador Hassan Ali Zaigham five Pakistani pupils got injured: 4 were provided first aid and discharged while one (identified as Shahzaib) is under treatment at Kyrgyz National Hospital for jaw injury. The envoy said that Shahzaib’s condition was out of danger.

Taking to the (X) Twitter on Saturday (18th May, 2024) PM Shehbaz Sharif stated: “Deeply concerned over the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I have directed Pakistan’s Ambassador to provide all necessary help and assistance.”

PM, while pledging that GoP would foot all the bills, instructed the Envoy to make travel arrangements for those wounded Pakistani students who desired to return home and provide the latest information to the concerned parents.
Meanwhile, Hassan Ali Zaigham, informing that 5 students got injured in the attack, told that the wounded pupils were being provided all possible assistance by the Pakistani diplomatic mission.
It may be recalled that recently few residents of Bishkek had a brawl with Egyptian nationals.
On Friday night more than a hundred students gathered at the intersection of 7 April and Ogonbaeva streets here to take revenge on the foreigners who beat their colleagues up.
Local students attacked the inhabitants of a number of medical universities’ hostels as well as private residences of international students including those of Pakistanis.
GoP’s note on Incidents of Mob Violence Against International Students Including Pakistanis in Bishkek:
“There have been a number of incidents of mob violence against foreign students in Bishkek since last evening.
“According to the Kyrgyz Press, the matter boiled over yesterday due to sharing online of videos of a fight between Kyrgyz students and medical students from Egypt on 13th of May.
“So far, a few hostels of medical universities in Bishkek and private residences of international students including Pakistanis have been attacked.
“The hostels are inhabited by students from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
“There have been reports of light injuries to a number of students from Pakistan.
“Despite social media posts about alleged death and rape of Pakistani students, so far, we have not received any confirmed report.
“The Mission has issued an Advisory for Pakistani students asking them to stay indoors until the situation returns to normal.
“We have also circulated our emergency numbers on social media as under:

“The Embassy has been able to contact over 250 students and their family members in Pakistan through these numbers.
“So far, the violence appears to be directed against all foreign students and not specific to Pakistanis.
“This is an evolving situation and we would the Pakistani community in Kyrgyzstan and their relatives in Pakistan in picture about any further developments.”
MoFA Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, taking to the X (Twitter) at 5.06 am (Saturday) stated: “Ambassador Hassan Ali Zaigham and his team are available on these emergency numbers (+996555554476, +996507567667 – both numbers on WhatsApp). They have responded to hundreds of queries by students and their families. In case the numbers do not connect due to because of phone traffic, please text/WhatsApp”.

At 11.28 am she added: “Pakistan Embassy has opened emergency helplines & is responding to queries fo students & their families. Ambassador Hassan Ali Zaigham has been in close contact with senior Kyrgyz authorities. 4 Pakistanis were provided first aid and discharged while one is under treatment for jaw injury”.

MoFA, that had summoned Kyrgyz chargé d’affaires, to hand over protest note, stated: “It was impressed on the Kyrgyz charge d’affaires that the Kyrgyz government should take all possible measures to ensure the safety and security of Pakistani students and citizens.”
